Girls in every sorority have had good expierences with their chapters. I think it is absolute bullshit that this guy gets to write a review that praises just one of them. And what a shock, it's the one his grilfriend is in. We have such a strong Greek life on campus. Stop being baised. This paper is turning into as joke with this one sided nonsense.

this is a joke

I agree with the comment posted above. It's ridiculous this author gets to brag about the sorority that his girlfriend is in. Every sorority on this campus has a strong sisterhood. The sisters support each other. If he's going to write an article like this, it should be about how strong Greek Life is on this campus. It's a joke that he brags on just one of our sororities at High Point University. I don't agree with the biased nature of the Campus Chronicle and it infuriates me everytime I read articles like this.

Clearly the point of this article was not to "brag" about a certain person or sorority, I think that's a horrible assumption to make. It's telling the story of one girl in a sorority, and is completely unbiased. This article is NOT a joke and research was obviously done for this article, it was not written based on a biased opinion.

This article is explaining how life was for Mae. The article is exemplifing all sororities through example not just Alpha Gam. While yes, my girlfriend is apart of AGD, it is not saying AGD is better than any other sorority. This is an inside look for eyes OUTSIDE of sorority life. Those that see the inside of sorority life know everyone has a strong sisterhood, but those OUTSIDE of greek life may not know that.

I am sick and tired of people attacking Bryan and his story.

First of all, this is not a review of any sorority. This is a feature, SHOWING people how wonderful Greek Life can be. Writing a bare bones article is usually quite boring and Bryan took it an extra mile by showing you the life of a sorority sister. He is showing an example of how people in sororities have a good experience. The Chronicle has written several stories on Greek Life. This is just a different angle.

It would be very difficult to do this using story using every sorority on campus. The point is someone would have bitched no matter which sorority he used. I bet if it were your sorority you wouldn't be complaining. One sorority had to be picked and Mae was picked. Get over it.

I'm sorry that you automatically assume that he picked Alpha Gam because his girlfriend is in the sorority. I guess the idea that he is a friend of the girl is totally out of the question.

Maybe there should be no stories about Greek Life at all. That way everyone will be happy.

Also can you please give another example of how the Chronicle is biased other than in Greek life? People in sororities themselves are already biased since they belong to a Greek organization and therefore have some attachment to them. Only one Chronicle editor is in Greek life and he did not write the article. Therefore all the bias the Chronicle could filter out was taken out.

Disclaimer: I am not in any type of sorority or feel any affection to AGD.

stop writing about greek life. you are not greek and unless you are greek you do not know what goes on. no matter how much you think you do. any greek on this campus will agree what we go through to join these organizations is meaningful and not for those outsiders, like you that think they know whats going on.

let greeks write about greek life on this campus.

It's true that Greeks do not write stories in the Chronicle about Greeks. Similarly, we generally do not allow people to write about other organizations they are in, including athletes not writing sports coverage about their own sport. It's basic journalism.

Look in any newspaper - there are almost always features on people that tell just one story but are typical of a group or a trend. It would be absurd for this article to go through and tell the story of each sorority. This article was never written to support one organization over others. It was a feature. It was innocent. A lot has been made over it needlessly.

The Chronicle staff is not biased toward or against any fraternities or sororities. I appreciate all of the posters' concerns, but it's impossible to show every single possible viewpoint in an article. What we can do is keep articles balanced and let readers draw their own conclusions, and that is what this article did.
